Toby Ziegler

Allison Janney is an American actor. Janney portrays C.J. Cregg on The West Wing.

Early Life & Education[]

Janney was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in the Ohio cities of Cincinnati and Dayton. 

She is the daughter of Macy Brooks Janney (née Putnam), a former actress, and Jervis Spencer Janney, Jr., a real estate developer and jazz musician. She has two brothers, Hal and Jay. 

Janney attended the Miami Valley School in Dayton, where she was named a distinguished alumna in 2005, and the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut, where she was named Alumna of the Year in 2016. She then attended Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. . She then went on to train at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York and did summer programs at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. 

Career[]

Janney appeared in more episodes of The West Wing than any other cast member. She won four Emmys for her work on the show in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004 and was nominated in 2003 and 2005. She was also nominated for four Golden Globes during her time on the show. She also won as the Best Supporting Actress at the 90th Academy Awards in 2018.

Janney has been an active film actress in supporting roles, recently appearing in Juno and Hairspray. She has also starred in American Beauty, 10 Things I Hate About You, Drop Dead Gorgeous, The Object of My Affection, The Hours and How to Deal. She lent her voice to the films Over the Hedge and Finding Nemo. She was in the Howard Stern biopic private Parts where she was Howard's boss at DC 101.

Janney portrays Bonnie Plunkett on the CBS sitcom Mom (2013–present). She starred in the 2017 movie I, Tonya, as LaVona Golden.

Personal Life[]

In interviews related to her role on Mom, Janney discussed her brother, Hal, who fought addiction for years before committing suicide. [1] On March 4, 2018, Janney dedicated her Academy Award win for Best Supporting Actress to him during her acceptance speech. [2]
