Allison Janney portrayed White House Press Secretary, and later White House Chief of Staff, C.J. Cregg, during the entire run of The West Wing. She appeared in more episodes than any other cast member. She won four Emmys for her work on the show in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004 and was nominated in 2003 and 2005. She was also nominated for four Golden Globes during her time on the show. She also won as the Best Supporting Actress at the 90th Academy Awards in 2018.
Janney has been an active film actress in supporting roles, recently appearing in Juno and Hairspray. She has also starred in American Beauty, 10 Things I Hate About You, Drop Dead Gorgeous, The Object of My Affection, The Hours and How to Deal. She lent her voice to the films Over the Hedge and Finding Nemo. She was in the Howard Stern bio pic private Parts where she was Howard's boss at DC 101.
She recently played as Bonnie Plunkett in the CBS sitcom Mom (2013–present), then she also appeared as LaVona Golden in 2017 movie I, Tonya.
Janney lives across the street from co-star Janel Moloney.
