Becky Reeseman is a Democratic member of the House of Representatives from Michigan. She is on Ways and Means.
She is an opponent of child labor. When the First Lady Abigail Bartlet makes a television appearance with Jeffrey Morgan, a fourteen-year-old activist who saved his pen pal from slavery, Reeseman feels her record demands she act. She decides to add an amendment on child labor restrictions to the Global Free Trade Markets Access Act the Bartlet Administration has been working on.
She warns Sam Seaborn of her intentions as a courtesy. The First Lady approaches Reeseman during a White House reception for the Michigan Women's Democratic Caucus. Abbey tells Reeseman to drop the amendment because it will kill the bill, and to make up for it, she promises President Bartlet will support Reeseman when she runs for the Senate.
She tells Abbey she confided in a man named Steve about her intentions, and the First Lady references being on Steve's boat with Reeseman and President Bartlet; based on context, Steve might be Reeseman's husband.
