Diane Mathers was a journalist who used to have a talk show, which Charlie Young's mother watched. He considered her sympathetic and sincere, but C.J. Cregg believed her warmth was a manipulative tactic to get people (including dictators) to open up on air.
She interviewed Zoey Bartlet about her kidnapping and the aftermath. She attempted to embarrass Zoey with her ex-boyfriend Jean-Paul's claim that she had intended to take ecstasy the night of the kidnapping, but while Zoey was angry with him, she was determined to tell the truth. She did admit to seeing a therapist, however.[1]
She later interviewed John Hoynes when his book Full Disclosure was released. She was unable to get Hoynes to say on air that he was running for president, but he did admit he wanted to return to public life.[2]
