James Buchanan was the President of the United States from 1857 to 1861.
While President, Buchanan was visited by Edward, Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII of the United Kingdom, and Buchanan decided that the White House Residence did not have enough room for guests, and the offices should be moved elsewhere.[1]
