Laura Dern is an Academy Award and Emmy winning American actor, director and activist. Dern portrays Tabatha Fortis in "The U.S. Poet Laureate".

Career[]

Dern came into prominence after performances in the movies Mask, Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart (with Grace Zabriskie). She then went onto star in and earned an Academy Award nomination for her titular role in Rambling Rose. She starred in Jurassic Park (with Miguel Sandoval), and the sequel Jurassic Park III (with John Diehl and Bruce French). In the 90s she also had starring roles in A Perfect World (with Bradley Whitford and Gil Glasgow), Citizen Ruth (with Mary Kay Place and David Graf) and October Sky (with Elya Baskin, Chris Ellis and Dave Hager). She also had a notable guest appearance on Ellen' in the episode where Ellen comes out.

In the 2000s, in addition to Jurassic Park III, she appeared in Dr T. and the Women (with Matt Malloy), I Am Sam (with Richard Schiff, Rosalind Chao and Roma Maffia) and Inland Empire (with Zabriskie, Stanley Kamel and Cameron Daddo).

In the 2010s, Dern saw a career resurgence, beginning with the television series Enlightened, as well as roles in films including Little Fockers (with Teri Polo and Hugh Dane), The Master (with Amy Adams, Bill Blair, Shawn Crowder, Ariel Felix, Franklin Dennis Jones, Brady Rubin and John H. Tobin), The Fault in our Stars, Wild (with Cliff DeYoung), The Founder (with John Carroll Lynch, Nick Offerman and Victor McCay), Downsizing (with Kay Place, Joaquim de Almeida and Esther K. Chae), Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi, Cold Pursuit and Little Women. In 2017 she won an Emmy for her role on Big Little Lies and in 2020 she also won an Academy Award for her performance in Marriage Story (co-starring Alan Alda and Carlos Jacott).
