Miranda Santos is the daughter of Matt and Helen Santos. She has a brother, Peter.

She is a young child during her father's campaign for the Democratic nomination. Miranda and Peter are both in Iowa for the Black & Brown Forum,[1] and later, she goes on stage holding her mother's hand at the Democratic National Convention when her father is announced as the Democratic nominee.[2]

Miranda and Peter are both sick when their father makes a visit home during his presidential campaign, which their mother blames on the campaign schedule. The family attends mass together, which is delayed an hour by the Secret Service who confiscate a gun owned by a boy named Teddy's dad. Miranda is playing Go-Fish with her father when Matt is distracted by Leo McGarry's upcoming debate with Ray Sullivan. While they are watching the debate, she tells off her father for saying, "Damn straight," in approval of Leo's performance.[3]

On Halloween, Miranda and Peter go trick-or-treating with Jon Bon Jovi.[4]

Once her father is elected president, Miranda moves to Washington D.C. with her family. The White House decorator designs her a princess-themed bedroom in the Residence. Her mother initially hoped the children would be able to finish out the school year in Houston, but that was a problem for the Secret Service. Instead Miranda's parents found her and Peter a public school in the city to attend.[5]

Notes[]

  • Miranda's age is unclear. Without specifying which, her mother describes one of her children as "five years old," and later references the fact that one of her children is in "fifth grade,"[5] making the child approximately ten or eleven. Miranda's actress Ashlyn Sanchez was born in 1996 and would have been nine years old when The Last Hurrah was filmed.
