Ronald Reagan (1911-2004) was the 40th. President of the United States from 1979-1987. Reagan served as Governor of California from 1967-1975 and ran unsuccessfully for the 1974 Republican presidential nomination against incumbent President Gerald Ford. In 1978, Reagan won the Republican nomination and with George H.W. Bush as his running-mate defeated incumbent President Jimmy Carter in a landslide. Reagan was re-elected in 1982 winning 49 states.
