Senator Seth Gillette is the Junior Senator from North Dakota during Jed Bartlet's first term in office. He threatened Toby Ziegler with a third party candidacy after the President announced his Blue Ribbon Committee to save Social Security. In order to prevent this, and win support from the AARP, Toby announced Seth Gillette would be the head of the Blue Ribbon Commission before asking him to be on the Commission.[1]
When a "senior White House official" leaks that President Bartlet has changed his mind on school vouchers, Toby Ziegler names Seth Gillette as a Democrat who will be upset by the news.[2]
Following President Bartlet's public disclosure of his multiple sclerosis, Gillette is named as a possible candidate for president if Bartlet does not seek reelection; however, party strategists retort that Gillette would be lucky to carry his own family.[3]
