Tim Fields is a Democrat who represents Texas in the House of Representatives. His district neighbors Matt Santos's district, the Texas 18th, and when he was Mayor of Houston, Santos practically camped outside his office for federal aid.
He was a candidate for Speaker when the Democrats took the House in the 2006 Election. Santos wanted to throw his support behind him because they both supported lobbying reform and Medicare Expansion, but he was persuaded against interfering in the House as President-Elect on behalf of his friend.
Instead, Santos asked Fields to drop out and support Mark B. Sellner. Fields at first thought Santos might offer him an appointment elsewhere, but the Democrats couldn't afford to lose his seat in a special election.
Trivia[]
